No Hen party to Edinburgh would be complete without some fun activities, the key as Maid of Honour or organiser is that everyone has fun, especially the Bride to be! It can seem like there are too many options so we’ve highlighted our top 5 to help you create the best Hen do possible,
Axe throwing
Let off all the steam and get dangerous with your hens at Black Axe Throwing. One of the fast growing activities for Hen’s, this Viking themed axing will be novel and interesting to everyone in the group.
Rated #8 on top activities for Edinburgh on Tripadvisor, the entrance can be hard to find on Summerhill crescent but once you’re in, you’ll hear their “valhalla” music to embrace your inner warrior. They have an instructor to show you the right safety technique, reading the other reviews, people do feel a sense of power when they do the axe throwing so be prepared.
Make sure to email edinburgh@blackaxethrowing.com for any large group booking, perhaps even organise a cheeky picture of the groom or ex for a bit of fun. Regular prices are £20 per person.
Mini Highland Games
Nothing could be more Scottish than a Hen party Highland Games . They are based 12 miles outside the city centre and the whole activity lasts around 2 hours (there’s an option to do a hour version also), suitable for a morning or afternoon slot.
The first part is getting dressed up in a kilt and wig which is sure to produce giggles all round, then split into teams and go head to head. Games include Tossing the Caber, Highland hoops, Tug of war, Mini Golf, Shot putt, Haggis spoon race and welly wangling. If you’re not sure what half these phrases mean, that’s okay, there’ll be an instructor on hand to explain everything. Just think school sports day style fun with bottles of wine for the winner.
Be sure to plan with the weather in mind and bring the right clothes for all the Hens.
On the prices, it’s key to enquire to find out more and get your best quote.
Dreamboys
Our heading lives up to what happens at this activity, a male strip show! Dreamboys travel across the UK with their exciting live show stopping at different cities along the way, usually for Scotland it’s every 2 weeks so be sure to line it up with your Hen Do in Edinburgh to book in.
There’s lots of different package options of drinks and warm up activities before seeing your version of “Magic Mike”. Ranging from £30 to £87 per person, their extras include cocktail making, nude drawing, dance class or meal/drink to get you in the mood. In their own words “With ticket packages to suit all requirements everything you need is under one muscle-clad roof for guaranteed satisfaction”. There’s also an option to get some merchandise as a hint or present for the Bride to be, to wear.
For getting in the mood also, you can see their very popular Instagram page.

The wonderfully named Department of Magic offers you a chance to be a witch or a wizard and take on the “Dark Lord” in your very own escape room or potions class. Located at Cowgate, this is a great activity for any Bride-to-be obsessed with Harry Potter as a child. Throughout the Escape Room experience, you will have an instructor giving hints to your team if needed to help solve the problem and crack the case.
The other part of the Department of Magic is the opportunity to make your own potions with ingredients such as eyeballs, unicorn blood and magic soil, which will all magically be drinkable at the end!
